Government to Investigate Whether the BNP are Racist

Following in the footsteps of the police and armed forces, and after campaigns by trade unions, the government is going to investigate whether the BNP actually are racist.

Taken from The Guardian:

Maurice Smith, a former Ofsted chief inspector, has been asked to investigate the extent of BNP action in English schools and to consider whether it would be possible to bar its members from working with children [...].

I hope that the Labour government — with their floundering public support — do behave impartially and bring about a fair and just decision. As the BBC's editors commented about the recent interview with Nick Griffin MEP:

[...] we're impartial - that means we should examine all political parties and put their representatives on the spot with fair and firm questioning. Impartial journalism and censorship do not sit happily together. We believe in getting the facts and the arguments out there for people to decide - not in judging what is "right" or "wrong" in a political context - that's for you to do.

The BNP are not an illegal party. They enjoy electoral support and have elected representatives. It is the BBC's job to properly examine all legitimate political parties that operate within the law and for which people clearly vote.

Any decision should be about fairness and equality, not censorship or vote-grabbing. I wish Maurice Smith the best of luck.
