BNP Watch looks at the policies of the British National Party and the conduct of its elected representatives. The site exists to provoke discussion from across the political spectrum, and to see whether "what they say" is really "what they do".
Following our earlier story about Nick Griffin fighting for his political life, Nick Griffin has announced that he will step down as BNP Leader in 2013. From Tory Troll:
The implosion of the British National Party continued apace last night as Nick Griffin said that he would stand down as leader.
This is the third story about BNP candidates and canvassers throwing punches during the run up to the 2010 General Election. PinkPaper.com writes:
A supporter of the British National Party is due to appear in court today after allegedly attacking a gay Conservative candidate at the UK's local elections, earlier this month.
Desmond OFlynn, 45, is said to have attacked the openly-homosexual Tory candidate on the evening of 6 May.
Nick Griffin has backed down from his case against Simon Bennett (former BNP Webmaster) as reported today in Vote No to BNP:
Just before the 2010 General Election, BNP's website went down due to a deliberate act of sabotage by the then-webmaster, Simon Bennett. A new webmaster, Chris Barnett, has been appointed. He's not a great piece of work either, as One Million United exposed:
As we covered on BNP Watch already, the former leader of Stoke-on-Trent BNP quit saying, "They've still got senior members of the BNP who will be candidates in the general election that have Nazi, Nazi-esque sympathies." Here's some proof from Vote No to BNP:
A photograph has emerged of a BNP councillor pictured with three men giving a Nazi salute standing next to a war memorial.
As reported in Vote No to BNP, it would appear that the BNP has huge internal difficulties right now. Bennett (former BNP webmaster) allegedly wrote:
The only traitor round here is griffin you f**king mug, just shut up and keep giving him your money you fool.
This is Staffordshire report on the hearing at North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court:
The husband of BNP city councillor Melanie Baddeley and his nephew have avoided being sent to prison after admitting growing cannabis in rooms concealed in a lock-up garage.
Baddeley told police both he and Peters liked to smoke cannabis but had recently been receiving poor quality drugs.
One Million United broke the story of shenanigans around the BNP website:
Reports of BNP canvassers punching people and threatening witnesses aren't isolated. From the BBC:
The British National Party's London organiser has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two men.
Bob Bailey was allegedly involved in a clash with some men in Harrow Road in Barking on 5 May - the day before the general election.
Nick Griffin sent out a letter to BNP members today. I can't tell if he's begging for support or apologising for the dismal results in the 2010 elections. One thing is clear, though, when reading the analysis and rebuttal in Liberal Democrat Voice: Nick Griffin doesn't understand mathematics or statistics. He strikes me as not the best person to talk about the economy.
